What are Kidney Stones?

Kidney stones are concrete deposits made of salts ad minerals from inside of the kidney. They are also called as renal lithiasis and nephrolithiasis.

Causes

Kidney stones have no single definite causes, several factors increase the chances of getting kidney stones. They are formed when the urine has more crystalline substances like calcium, oxalate and uric acid than fluid.

Types

  • Calcium stones in the form of calcium oxalate
  • Struvite stones which form in response to any infection
  • Uric acid stones form in those people who don’t take enough fluids
  • Crystine stones are formed due to hereditary disorder.

Symptoms

Usually, kidney stones don’t cause any symptoms until they start moving within your kidney or pass into your bladder then you experience following symptoms

  • Severe pain at sides and at back
  • Radiating pain towards lower abdomen and groin area
  • Pain while urinating
  • Red or brown urine
  • Persistent urge to urinate
