What is Hemorrhage?

Hemorrhage is another word for bleeding or blood loss. This can be internal bleeding or external bleeding. Internal bleeding happens when the blood comes out from a damaged blood vessel or organ and external bleeding occurs when there’s a leak of blood because of a break in the skin. Bleeding may happen in practically any part of the body. The most obvious openings it can occur are the mouth, nose, rectum, and in women, the vagina. Blood loss can be caused by a variety of things like cuts (lacerations), gunshot wounds, serious injuries, punctures into the skin from needles or penetrating items, and bruises. Medical conditions like brain trauma, lung cancer, liver disease, leukemia, and other similar problems. In addition to that, medicines may also cause bleeding or increase the chances of it like blood thinners, antibiotics, etc.

Treatment

The treatment will depend on how severe the bleeding is. If it is a penetrating object like a knife, arrow, or any other weapon on the wound, they must stay where they are because if removed, it may cause more harm and more bleeding. It’s best to put a bandage and/or pads to keep it in place and absorb the bleeding. For less dangerous situations apply medium pressure with items like a clean cloth, bandage(s), hands with gloves on, to slow and stop the bleeding.
