What is Dysmenorrhea?

Dysmenorrhea is another word for menstrual cramps. These occur when a woman goes through her menstrual cycle. They feel pressure and aching pain in the belly and pain in hips, lower back, and inner thighs. In severe cases, it can cause an upset stomach, loose stools, and sometimes vomiting.

Treatment

It is recommended to take pain relievers such as aspirin to ease pain.  Women may also warm up the stomach by using a heating pad or hot water bottle on the lower back or stomach, a hot shower can help too. The woman should rest when needed, avoid anything with caffeine and salt, not to consume alcohol or use tobacco and to massage the abdomen and lower back. If the above does not relieve pain, then it’s best to let the doctor know, they can prescribe further medication or give further advice.
