Diabetic Foot

Diabetes when untreated can cause serious problems like a diabetic foot. This may damage the nerves within the legs and feet and if this happens, the patient might not feel pain, cold, or heat. This condition is called diabetic neuropathy and if a cut or soreness isn’t felt on the feet because of this, it could become worse causing infection. The foot may not even work properly with the nerves affected. There may also be poor blood flow because of diabetes so cuts take longer to heal and this may result in infection to the point that gangrene can develop, this condition is called peripheral vascular disease. Other common problems include athlete's foot, dry skin, blisters, fungal infections, etc…

Treatment

Treatment for a diabetic foot is the same for diabetes, it must be controlled and the doctor’s advice must be followed all the way through. Though to specifically prevent it, it’s advised to wash the feet with warm water, apply lotion if the skin is dry, wear socks, and wear shoes that fit well. It’s best to see the doctor for treatment as every situation is different.

HospitALL provides the best diabetic doctors available.
