About Biliary Stone treatment

Biliary Stone treatment is treatment for when gallstones move out of the gallbladder and then pass into the stomach. Gallstones are hard crystal-like particles made in the gallbladder by the bile. They can be very small like the size of a grain of salt or one large one. There may even be several thousand stones. Some people may have silent stones where they are symptom free for years and don’t feel anything, requiring no treatment. But those who do get symptoms may feel sudden pain, chills, a fever, nausea, get jaundice and possibly start vomiting. This all may be separated by weeks, months, or years.

Treatment

Gallstones are found through ultrasound or CT scans usually. For surgical treatment, the gallbladder is removed. This can either be done in an open cholecystectomy or in a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. With an open surgery, the gallbladder is removed through a 5-8 inch cut and the patient stays at the hospital for about a week before recovering at their home for several weeks. But the laparoscopic approach is used much more often as there is a much smaller cut hence resulting in less pain, quicker healing, less scarring and hardly a chance of infection. Recovery requires only one night in the hospital and several days resting at home. There are also non surgical treatments, but those are used in special circumstances.
