What is Vasculitis?
The inflammation caused by blood vessels is termed as vasculitis. This happens when the immune system attacks the blood vessels. This may happen due to infection, the side effects of any medicine or some other disease. The inflammation can occur in arteries, vein and capillaries.
When blood vessels are inflamed
- They become narrow and constricted making it more difficult for the blood to get through
- Close off and blood cant pass-through
- A bulge called aneurysm is formed which can cause internal bleeding.
Symptoms
Symptoms of vasculitis may vary but general symptoms include
- Fever
- Swelling
Treatment
The main purpose of treating vasculitis is to stop the inflammation in the blood vessels. Steroids and medicines are used to stop and prevent inflammation.
