What is Ultrasound?

Ultrasound scan is a medical test that employs high-frequency sound waves that capture images from inside of our body. Ultrasound is used to diagnose the underlying causes of pain, swellings, or any infection in the internal organs of the body. It is also used to examine the growth of the baby in pregnant women. It can also detect lumps in the body and can also reveal if the lump is cancerous or just a fluid-filled cyst.

Ultrasound is a safe procedure as it doesn’t involve any incision and any ionizing radiation. The image produced by ultrasound is called a sonogram and the image is interpreted by a radiologist.

How should you prepare for Ultrasound?

There’s no special preparation for Ultrasound. Your doctor will guide you on how to prepare yourself for the ultrasound scanning. You may be asked to refrain from eating and drinking beforehand.

Wear loose and comfortable clothing while going for an ultrasound. The whole procedure lasts less than 30 minutes depending upon the area under examination and after the examination, you can carry out your daily tasks without any hindrance or issue.
