What is Blood Pressure?
Blood Pressure (BP) is the measure of the force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls. The heart pumps blood into the blood vessels which transport the blood around the whole body. A high BP is dangerous as it makes the heart work harder to pump blood around the body. This is dangerous because it causes the arteries to harden, and can result in stroke, kidney disease, and to heart failure. Reasons for a high BP include obesity, smoking, genetics, older age, stress, lack of physical activity, sleep apnea and more.
Treatment
To lower down BP, it’s recommended to make lifestyle changes such as eating a more heart-healthy diet with less salt, regular physical activity, and maintaining a good weight. But lifestyle changes may not be enough, so medication will be needed and the medication prescribed will depend on person to person.
